Dear Ms. McCarthy:

As a Kinesiology student at the University of Rhode Island with a specialization in Exercise Science, I am very interested in the position available in Cardiac Rehabilitation at your wellness facility. I am currently in my final semester at URI, in which I will receive my degree this August at the conclusion of my internship.

I have taken Chronic Disease & Fitness Program/ Exercise Prescription classes where they stress the need for Cardiac Rehab with certain patients, in which they complete a 4-phase rehabilitation process. I transferred from Providence College to URI in 2011 in order to study Exercise Science and to better my chances in finding a field of interest, in which I believe I have found. My Kinesiology related experiences are:

  • Alpha Physical Therapy: internship/observation. Assistant to the Physical Therapist with hands on patient experience (Ultrasound, electric stimulation)

  • Ocean State Health and Fitness: gym atmosphere experience/front desk

  • LA Fitness: gym atmosphere experience/front desk

  • URI Student Assistant Athletic Trainer: Assistant to the head athletic trainer with hands on patient

    experience.

  • URI Gerontology internship: 4 times within the semester working with older adults in the Assisted Living

    and Nursing Home environments.

  • Miriam Hospital Center of Cardiac Fitness: working hands on with both cardiac and pulmonary patients 40

hrs per week for 10 weeks.

  • Miriam Hospital Catheterization Lab: observation of catheterization procedures

I would love the opportunity to work with patients and use my abilities to create a comfortable and welcoming environment to all Cardiac/Pulmonary patients. I believe that it’s a patient’s confidence and self-belief, as well as the exercise physiologist’s commitment that can provide them with the motivation to succeed in any rehabilitation program out there. My 400 internship hours has given me the opportunity to work as part of a team and one on one with patients. Working, as a team is something I have been doing for 10 years, in which I have discovered my skills of patience and organization. Given the opportunity to work with your team, I believe I can bring my positive and uplifting personality to the people around me. The knowledge that I have gained through education and internship/observation experiences with people of all ages will allow me to be a positive contribution. I believe my training at the Miriam with stress testing, exercise prescriptions, EKG interpretation, and patient communication has properly prepared me for a career in this field.

I thank you for reviewing my qualifications.

Sincerely, Arianna Colella
